Submitting works personally, via post or courier by the deadline of 28.02.2018 (works have to be submitted at the office of the Department of Interior Design of the Academy of Fine Arts, 31-121 Kraków, ul. Humberta 3. The date of delivery to the Department of Interior Design of the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków prevails).
The results of the Competition will be announced on 7 March 2018 at 19:30 in the Małopolska Garden of Arts, ul. Rajska 12, Kraków (opening of the 5th International Biennale Of Interior Design and vernissage for the exhibition of competition works)
The contest task consists in making a design for a redefinition of the interior space and space around the Małopolska Garden of Arts’ building in Kraków (ul. Rajska 12, Kraków) taking into consideration new values and the tradition of the place, and providing it with a clear structure as a place where it is possible to appreciate culture, find information, establish new contacts, work and relax.
Modernisation, creative interference, with the use of selected criteria:
O P E N S P A C E – scope of work: architecture of the place and its surroundings, presentation of different artistic activities in relation to their surroundings, role of the Małopolska Garden of Arts in Kraków, etc. The project may include redefinition of the existing functions.
S P A C E O F A R C H I T E C T U R E – scope of work: interior design whose function accords to the planned strategy of the institution’s development (to be downloaded together with terms and conditions of the competition), extended with a new, up-to-date, visionary functional-spatial assumption.
S P A C E I N D E T A I L – scope of work: items of equipment in the interior space or public space around the Małopolska Garden of Arts.
The project is aimed at taking a look in a visionary and holistic way at the function and interior design of the Małopolska Garden of Arts, its nearest surroundings, the transition areas between interior and outside spaces, creating an architectonic vision in the context of the mission and forms of the institution’s conduct while respecting the existing architectonic shape.
II. Description of the competition work:
1. The work should contain:
a. concepts and design assumptions,
b. indication of place of execution,
c. characteristics and the means of use
2. The project presentation in the following selected formats:
a. boards 70 x 100 cm (max. 3 items)
for on-line registration required illustrations in a format to be selected (.jpg, .jpeg, .png)
b. spatial presentation (max. surface area 2.1 sq.m)
for on-line registration required model photographs (.jpg, .jpeg, .png)
c. project concept in the form of a film study (mov, wmv)
for on-line registration pictures, movie frames (.jpg, .jpeg, .png) should be attached.
NOTE: marking of project works is individual for each participant, according to the guidelines received after submitting the application form for participation in the competition. Presentation of the competition work cannot have any additional authorship markings.
III. Assessment criteria for the project:
- concept and visionary design solutions
- context of place and user
- relation to the selected architecture in place and its surroundings
- creative contribution to planning urban space
- functionality and diversity of use
- taking into consideration social life
- ecological aspects
- artistic and individual level of project presentation

Admission to the Jan Matejko Academy in Kraków
1st Prize – founded by the Executive and Art Director of the Juliusz Slowacki Theatre in Kraków in the amount of PLN 3,300.00 gross
2nd Prize – founded by the Dean of the Department of Interior Design of the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków in the amount of PLN 3,300.00 gross

*If the winner of the Grand Prix of the 5th International Biennale Of Interior Design is a student of bachelor’s studies in the field of interior design, he or she will be granted admission to the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków for the academic year 2018/19 or 2019/20 (applies only to students of the second-degree cycle of interior design), this prize is not granted to team works.
From the above amounts a fixed tax will be credited in the amount of 10% of the prize value pursuant to Art. 30.1.2 of the PIT Act.
